A group of fifteen Year 12 English Language students from The Marches Sixth Form are taking part in the Harvard Crimson Global Essay Competition (HCGEC) which launched on the 22nd March.

The HCGEC brings together from around the world ambitious secondary school students with a passion for, or interest in writing. This competition is an annual opportunity for students to showcase their talents on a global stage, whilst competing to win exclusive educational opportunities and prizes. It also gives students a fantastic chance to explore the different possibilities of a future in writing.

The 2021 Global prizes are exceptional and include exclusive internships with The Harvard Crimson – a daily student newspaper of Harvard University founded in 1873. It is the only daily newspaper in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is run entirely by Harvard College undergraduates. Further prizes include the opportunity to have work published and endorsed by two global educational organisations and much more!

The competition takes place completely virtually, which is fantastic, allowing students from all over the world access to explore and develop their writing interests. The Marches Academy Trust has funded this exciting opportunity for the Sixth Formers and they will be guided by Mrs Polly-Ann Smith and Mrs Rhian Lloyd as they access resources and webinars from the Harvard Crimson.

We wish them lots of luck and are sure that this learning opportunity will be incredibly valuable.
