Tilstock Primary School

Tilstock CE Primary School joined the Marches Academy Trust in December 2017. Prior to joining the Trust, the school had received an Inadequate Ofsted report and was at risk of closure.

Saving a school from closure

At the time of joining, the school was in a bad position following risk of closure after its Ofsted report. The school has 32 children on roll and only 1 permanent member of teaching staff which collectively, was causing a lot of strain on the future of the school. The Trust developed a long-term plan for the school and, with support from the Department for Education sponsorship funding, we installed a new leadership team. Additionally, we worked closely with the community to improve both standards in the school and it’s standing in the community.

A new look for Tilstock

Tilstock School worked with key members of the Trust to refresh the branding and uniform, giving the school an updated identity. This provided somewhat of a fresh start for Tilstock, whilst also supporting the operational improvements that were being made in teaching and learning.

Due to growth and popularity, in 2021 the Trust used its capital funds to build a new two-classroom teaching block to enable the school to meet the demand for places amongst its community. The school now has 92 children on roll and recently received a Good Ofsted judgement, evidencing the significant improvements the school has seen since joining the Trust.
