People Strategy

Attract, develop, retain and inspire an engaged workforce.

We are developing a MAT wide People Strategy that encompasses a common approach to the candidate experience from the point of application through to talent spotting and succession planning, from Initial Teacher Training through to executive leaders.

Our People strategy provides measured advice, guidance, and inspirational leadership, aimed at further embedding a high-performance culture built on inclusivity, engagement, collaboration and continuous improvement. We build our capacity for school improvement by investing in the professional growth and development of all our staff. Alongside this our change agent programme identifies talent at all levels of experience and invests in our staff to give them opportunities to influence and drive change.

Talent Pathway

Creating a culture of motivation and commitment

The Marches Academy Trust invests in our talent pathway, to ensure our staff team have a clear sense of purpose, an appreciation of everyone’s unique and a strong sense of belonging. Our staff are given the opportunity to make the most of their potential through fair and open access to professional learning.

We are developing systems for sharing staff success and for recognising outstanding performance across the trust that motivates staff to perform at the highest level – enabling our staff team to identify the standards of excellence that pertain to their role, the professional development they have had to support them to reach these and the next steps they can undertake.

Professional Learning

High-quality, trust wide, professional learning

We embrace and celebrate continuous learning and have created a culture where all learning is valued. We provide gold standard professional learning for those new to teaching, for schools requiring support and for the exemplary leaders of the future – ensuring life changing impact on children and young people.

Through the Alliance of Leading Learning we are leaders in providing the National Professional Qualifications to our MAT staff, and nationally, as part of a leadership development strategy for leaders, both current and aspiring.

Encouraging collaboration

The MAT Conference underpins our Professional Learning and is a unique fully funded experience by the Trust to ensure we put our people first, invest in their learning and develop a sense of belonging.

Wellbeing at the Core

At Marches Academy Trust our central drive and core to the wellbeing of our staff and children and young people is “Achievement through Caring.” We are developing a cultural change across the Trust to ensure our staff team can flourish. Flourishing staff deliver an implicit message that staff and their wellbeing are valued and valuable.

All Trust schools have signed up to the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter – a public commitment to actively promote mental health and wellbeing through Trust policy and practice.

Part of our wellbeing offer also includes support through the Schools Advisory Service – a free and confidential services offered to each Trust employee.

Maintaining excellence across our Trust

Excellence is one of our five Trust values. We strive for excellence in all we do and are committed to securing bright futures for all our children and young people. We reflect frequently on our strengths and improvement areas and are honest and thoughtful in our self-review. We quality assure our practice with rigour and where we feel improvements can be made, we deploy our school support and improvement consultants to work with our MAT schools and external schools through a coaching model to secure excellence.

A recipe for success

Wellbeing should be at the core of all schools and Multi Academy Trusts. We fully recognise that we are beginning the cultural change across the Trust to ensure our staff team can flourish. We believe:

  • Flourishing teachers inspire children and young people to flourish.
  • Flourishing teachers create the foundations for learning to flourish.
  • Flourishing leaders in education enable teachers to live a balance life inside and outside school – which in turn delivers an implicit message that teachers and their wellbeing are valued and valuable.
  • Flourishing schools provide the bedrock for balanced perspectives, balanced approaches, balanced attitudes and balanced living – for all.
